Launchy is a free windows utility designed to help you forget about your start menu, the icons on your desktop, and even your file manager.

Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes!

More screenshots are available here. It’s a very useful tool. Simply press the key combination: Alt + Space to bring up the launcher and in a few keystrokes, you can run your favorite program. Furthermore, you can also index your documents, music, etc. The best part about the software is that it’s not made by Microsoft!! Of course, if you [still] think this software is worthless or you’ve found a better alternative, please feel free to leave comments.

I installed it..it works good..
although the ‘inedxing’ which they described in tips and tricks on the webpage is not very clear.
so jumping to a folder u created, might take some time to figure out, but works good for launching any program
“..The best part about the software is that it’s not made by Microsoft!! Of course, if you [still] think this software is wort..”
how sarcastic……wonder where did u get that idea from..!!!
oh btw, did u realize this theme does not give the author name near the post, kind of a bummer for team blogs, i dont think we want to have this theme for too long

Dude,

There are thousands of software which would be available, which is more important to you is what it matters the most. I mean what is more important is not how many software you have, rather, how much effectively would you be using it.
I mean consider this analogy; its like you have loads and tons of information available around you. How much info you require to effectivly convert it into knowledge is more important for you. Rest all is redundant….

And, if that software is really important, dont worry, “Big daddy” Microsoft would buy the company out and include it in your next version windows…

hehe. Ashuji has returned after a long, long absence. Guess what… this feature is included in Vista. Press the Windows key and start typing in the application name and it opens it. There’s a search bar everywhere in Vista, even in the Control Panel.

Launchy is cool.I actually felt like using Vista when doing it but yeah, now it’s pretty much convenient to open one’s favorite song without having to dig through the playlist or the folders. It’s especially helpful for people with low RAM I suppose cause having used a screwed up system myself,I know it’s a huge pain having to wait for the various start menu items to reach your desired program. The alternative to it was putting everything required on the desktop but that way,the desktop looked a mess.Launchy is a better way to go around that problem and it’s very neat too and plus you can fool your friends into believing it’s a Windows component and have them wondering..iski windows meri windows se cool kaise? 😀

Lol… yeah, it’s pretty cool that way. Looks good too!

Fancy this..
google desktop search(updated version I believe), does exactly same thing. It searches for file, folder and programs.
It hides and appears forward just like launchy and best part is it does indexing all by itself unlike launchy..
unless I am missing something here..google desktop search can really replace launchy.., of course the one in vista would certainly be more sophisticated.

I dislike some of the google products but in the big picture, most of the products and gadgets they have are really amazing, they are just small, creative, friendly and fits perfectly as per ur needs.

Yes, I know about Google Desktop Search. There’s also Windows Live Desktop Search. I’ve used both. Launchy is far lighter than both and it’s easier to use. And especially for launching programs, launchy is much better.
